Crucial is expanding its SSD portfolio with the introduction of new P5 and P2 SSD featuring Micron’s TLC 3D NAND controller. While the Crucial P5 SSD aims at providing the fastest sequential read & write speeds, the P2 targets users who are at a budget but cannot afford to sacrifice performance. Both Crucial P5 and P2 SSD utilize the NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 interface and M.2 2280 form factor.

Crucial P5 SSD

Following the success of P1 SSD, the latest Crucial P5 SSD features faster sequential read & write speeds up to 3400 & 3000 MB/s respectively, thanks to the Micron 96L 3D NAND technology and controller. Although the new P5 is the fastest Crucial SSD but we cannot call it the fastest SSD in the market against other competitors.

Since P5 relies on the PCIe Gen3 x4 format, it falls way short against PCIe Gen4 x4 SSDs available in the market. Unless you’re into extreme overclocking, gaming, or content creation, you will be totally fine with this SSD.

Crucial P5 SSD will be available in 4 capacity options up to 2TB. The capacity options include:

  • 250GB
  • 500GB
  • 1TB
  • 2TB

For optimum performance and durability, P5 comes with features like dynamic write acceleration, error correction algorithms, and adaptive thermal protection.

Along with enhanced endurance, the latest Crucial P5 SSD also boasts superior data protection with full-drive encryption capability.

Crucial P2 SSD

Crucial P2 SSD offers lower sequential read/write speeds (up to 2100/1150 MB/s) and lower MTTF (1.5 million hours) than P5 SSD. But that’s acceptable since this SSD mainly focuses on providing reasonably high performance at a lower price. Unlike P5, Crucial P2 SSD is available in only 2 capacities (250GB & 500GB) as of now. But the company will soon launch a 1TB version of P2 SSD as well.

Price and Availability

In terms of price and availability, Crucial P2 SSD is available in both 250GB and 500GB models at a price of $54.99 and $64.99 USD respectively. Whereas the P5 is yet to release.
