DDR5 Equivalent to DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 RAM in terms of Overall Latency

Guides » RAM » DDR5 Equivalent to DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 RAM in terms of Overall Latency

DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 offers an overall latency of 10ns which is considered a pretty good number. However, when it comes to DDR5, most of the RAM modules offer very high CL timings around 30 to 40. Fortunately, the data transfer rate with DDR5 is fast enough to reduce the overall latency caused by high CL timings. In this post, we’ll find the DDR5 RAM modules that are equivalent to DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 in terms of overall latency.

Upon calculating CL/Data Rate * 2000, we get overall latency. So for DDR4 3200 MHz CL16, we get 10ns overall latency. Now let’s check out the DDR5 RAM options in the market that offer the same 10ns overall latency.

DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB – 6000 MHz CL30

The DDR5 RAM module shown above features 6000 MHz memory speed and CL30 latency timing. Upon calculating CL/Data Rate * 2000, we get 10ns overall latency with this module. So this DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 will offer the same overall latency as DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 RAM modules.

DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 – 6400 MHz CL32

Another DDR5 RAM module in this list is again Trident Z5 from G.Skill but with different speed and latency timings. This RAM module boasts memory speeds of 6400 MHz and CL32 latency timing. Doing the same calculation we did before, it turns out that this RAM module offers the same overall latency of 10ns. So in terms of overall latency, the DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 – 6400 MHz CL32 is also equivalent to DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM modules.

DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series – 5600 MHz CL28

G.Skill introduced another version of DDR5 Trident Z5 RGB RAM with 5600 MHz and CL28 latency. At the time of this writing, CL28 is the lowest latency timing we’ve seen so far on DDR5. This DDR5 module offers the same 10ns overall latency equivalent to DDR4 3200 MHz CL16.

G.Skill RipJaws S5 Series – 5600 MHz CL28

Not a fan of RGB? Save some money with the G.Skill RipJaws S5 Series 5600 MHz CL28 DDR5 RAM that offers the same 10ns overall latency just like DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM.

G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Series – 5600 MHz CL28 (AMD EXPO)

If you’re planning to build an AMD rig with the latest X670 chipset and Ryzen 7000 processor, the G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Series 5600 MHz CL28 (AMD EXPO) is the way to go. Again, if we’d calculate, it will offer the same 10ns overall latency which is equivalent to DDR4 3200 MHz CL16.
