MSI has officially introduced its latest MAG X570 Tomahawk Wifi motherboard for AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen processors supporting Thunderbolt connectivity. So far now, it is one of the very few motherboards for the AMD X570 platform that allows a Thunderbolt connection (only via TBT connector). The new MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk Wifi features high-speed DDR4 memory (up to 4600 MHz via overclocking), latest standard USB ports, & blazing-fast storage with two M.2 slots PCIe 4.0 slots.
Compared to the existing MSI X570 motherboards in the market, the newer one does not surprise with innovative features. But it is not a motherboard to underestimate either. It still provides a good value for money under budget.
The 12X60A SPS Power Stages design allows the MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk Wifi to provide smooth operations under heavy workloads even with the flagship 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 3950X CPU. And with the help of MSI’s proprietary heat dissipation technology, the motherboard is able to maintain stable frequencies even during extreme overclocking.
MAG X570 Tomahawk offers 4 DIMM slots that support a total of 128 GB dual-channel DDR4 memory running at 3200 MHz (JEDEC). Through overclocking, the DDR4 speeds can reach up to 4600+ MHz.
Storage and Connectivity
Along with 6 SATA ports, the new MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk Wifi equips two Lightning Gen4 x4 M.2 (PCIe 4.0 x4) slots with M.2 Shield Frozr for super-fast storage.
In terms of connectivity, the motherboard supports up to 17 USB ports with 8 ports on the rear and 9 on the front. Out of 17, 11 of those ports support the latest USB 3.2 standard.
Precisely, on the rear, MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk Wifi features 3x (Gen 2, Type A), 1x (Gen 1 Type C), 2x (Gen 2, Type A), & 2x USB 2.0 ports. The rest of the ports are accessible through USB connectors.
For robust network connectivity, the motherboard incorporates the latest Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 module & Realtek 8125B 2.5G LAN controller.
You can further expand the capabilities of the motherboard via PCIe expansion slots. Up to 4 expansion slots are available in the new MAX X570 Tomahawk Wifi:
- 1x PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E1)
- 1x PCIe 4.0/3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E3) (supports x4 mode)
- 2x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots
Unfortunately, there are very few motherboards for the AMD X570 platform in the market that supports Thunderbolt connection. Even worse, there is only one motherboard (ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3) for the AMD platform right now that actually integrates a Thunderbolt 3 port.
The new MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk supports Thunderbolt connection but only via connector.
