Along with the Galaxy S20 Smartphone Series, Samsung also introduced Galaxy Z Flip which is the world’s first foldable flip phone to feature 21.9:9 screen aspect ratio. It is not the first foldable smartphone from Samsung as Galaxy Fold was the first model from the company to feature the folding screen design. While Galaxy Z Flip unfolds vertically, the Fold model flips horizontally. Flip Z comes with a side key fingerprint sensor that also shares power and Bixby functions.
Unlike the flagship S20 models, Samsung Flip Z does not support 5G and rather sticks to 4G wireless technology.
Now let’s precisely talk about the design, display, camera, battery and other essential features of this new foldable smartphone.
Vertical Unfolding Screen
Featuring a new hideaway hinge with a dual CAM mechanism, this latest Samsung flip phone is able to provide a smooth and stable folding experience. When unfolded, the screen is 6.7″ long (diagonally). In free-standing mode, Flip Z automatically splits into two 4 inch screens providing an intuitive multitasking experience. Thanks to the new Flex mode that enables a better UX with a unique forward folding display.
21.9:9 Screen Aspect Ratio
Galaxy Flip Z is the first smartphone to feature 21.9:9 aspect ratio in the industry that allows you to enjoy wide-screen anamorphic content.
Main and Cover Display
The main AMOLED display supports a FHD+ (2636×1080) 425ppi resolution. And there is also a 1.1” Super AMOLED (300×112) 303 ppi cover display on the backside of the Flip Z that shows essential information such as date, time, & battery status, and other notifications. In addition, it also allows you to answer calls without unfolding the screen.
Samsung Galaxy Flip Z Camera Features
Samsung Galaxy Flip Z comes with dual 12 MP wide and ultra-wide rear cameras and 10MP centered in-display front selfie camera. The rear 12 MP f/1.8 wide-angle camera supports a 78-degree FOV with a 1.4μm pixel size. Moreover, it offers OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), Super Speed Dual Pixel AF, as well as up to 8x digital zoom support. Whereas the ultra-wide 12 MP f/2.2 camera features 120-degree FOV with a 1.12μm pixel size. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, the telephoto lens is missing.
For selfies, the 10MP f/2.4 front camera provides 80-degree FOV and supports live focus for both stills and videos.
Video capabilities of Galaxy Flip Z are good but it does not offer 8k resolution support like the new S20s. At maximum, this new Samsung Flip phone can offer 4k UHD (3840×2160) resolution at 60 fps. In addition, HDR10+ video recording and tracking autofocus support is also possible.
Although this foldable phone can shoot super slo-mo videos at 960 fps, it can only shoot at such a high frame rate for 0.4 seconds.
Incorporating 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, 3300mAh (typical) dual battery, and Snapdragon 855+ processor, Galaxy Flip Z offers smooth and efficient performance even under heavy loads.
