Meet the world’s fastest SSD with speeds that defeat even Intel Optane drives. This is “Micron X100” that features 3D XPoint technology that sits in the middle of DRAM and NAND speeds. It is capable of delivering Sequential read/write speeds of 9GB/s or even more which is almost three times more than current SSDs in the market. Just like that, it boasts Random speeds of 2.5 million IOPS, again three times more than other SSDs.

Micron 3D XPoint technology shines with 8 microseconds of latency leaving Intel Optane behind. Compared to other SSDs in the market, this is 11 times better latency. The perks are not only limited to speeds, this technology also provides 16 times more DRAM capacity. This helps greatly in extending application memory.

This Micron SSD utilizes PCIe 3.0 x 16 slot and uses NVMe interface to deliver astronomical speeds. The performance of 3D XPoint SSDs so strong that they almost deliver the same performance as DRAM but at lower price point.

It is interesting to know that Intel and Micron developed this technology together. Since they are on separate ways now, the competition will definitely rise and we will see more and more SSDs with such technology. However, according to Micron, X100 NVMe SSD will aim at Data Centers. There is no word on the availability of this 3D XPoint SSD to the consumer market.
