Dell Launches New XPS 13 2020 Laptop: CES 2020

Dell is ready to showcase its bunch of new products at CES 2020. Among them is the new Dell XPS 13 2020 laptop that comes with five different configurable options. All of the models incorporate Intel’s latest 10th generation 10nm processors. While the base model of the Dell new XPS 13 2020 supports 2 cores, 4GB RAM, and 256GB NVME SSD, the top model will come with 6 cores, 16GB RAM and 2TB NVME SSD.

New Display

Incorporating the latest Gorilla Glass 6, the new 2020 Dell XPS 13 laptop provides even stronger protection from impacts and scratches. Due to the new twin coil press-fit hinge, the display boasts a larger (91.5%) screen to body ratio. Dell’s 4 Sided InfinityEdge display allows for a greater screen aspect ratio of 16:10 providing more working real estate in a 13″ laptop.

In terms of display size, type, and resolution, there are a lot of options to choose from. The new XPS 13 2020 Models with a starting price of $1,179.99 or less support a 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge Non-Touch Display. Some of these XPS 13 models offer upgradability to either FHD touch or 4k touch display. However, variants with the base price of $1,449.99 or above won’t allow customizations with 13.3-inch UHD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge Touch Display.

With the support for Dolby Vision HDR and VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, Dell XPS 2020 laptop produces rich and vibrant colors with capabilities of reaching 400 nits. All of the models come with IPS panels providing a wide-angle of view. According to dell, these displays also feature a 0.65% anti-reflective coating that helps to minimize flares in bright situations.

New Processors

The new Dell XPS 13 2020 laptops boast Intel’s latest 10th generation 10nm CPUs with the latest Intel Iris Plus graphics. The best chip you can get on this laptop is the Intel Core i7-10710U 6-core processor that supports boost speeds up to 4.70GHz with 12 MB Cache. Whereas the cheapest option is the Intel Core i3-10110U, which is a dual-core processor with the boost speeds of 4.10GHz and 6 MB Cache.

Storage and Memory

Due to the processor limitations, XPS 13 can only reach speeds up to 2133MHz with LPDDR3 RAM. Unfortunately, this is not a desirable memory speed for professional content creation applications.

In terms of storage, the capacity options range from 256 GB up to 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. However, not every model will allow for such customization.

New and Improved Webcam

Unlike typical webcams, the new Dell XPS 13 2020 laptop comes with a new 4-element lens that ensures maximum sharpness and better noise reduction capabilities even in low light.

Dynamic Tuning Technology

XPS 13 2020 uses Intel’s latest Dynamic Tuning technology that enables the laptop to actively alter the power of the CPU. As a result, the laptop runs at low performance under low workloads and vice versa. This helps to increase the battery backup substantially to provide longer runtimes.

Connectivity

Incorporating two Thunderbolt 3 (DisplayPort / Power Delivery) ports Dell XPS 13 is able to provide blazing fast throughput speeds of 40GB/s. For audio purposes, there is a single 3.5mm Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack. Furthermore, you also get a microSD card slot so you can quickly transfer the data from cards without an additional card reader.

Pricing and Availability

According to the company, this new range of Dell XPS 13 2020 laptops will be available from January 7, 2020, at a starting price of $999 USD. However, for a specific period of time, you can get these laptops at a low price due to the promotional discounts. Initially, XPS will only release in Canada, US, Sweden, UK, Germany, and France. Following that, the global release will start in February.

Dell will also release XPS 13 Developer Edition models in February in select European countries, US, and Canada at a starting price of $1,999 USD.
