Samsung has just unveiled the industry’s first all-in-one power management integrated circuits (PMIC) optimized for wireless earbuds. These new all-in-one Samsung Power IC (MUA01 and MUB01) integrate up to 10 discrete components in one chip that contribute to a more efficient design and allot more room to the battery to provide longer playback time for true wireless earbuds.
According to Samsung, both MUA01 and MUB01 are currently in mass production. You can also find these ICs in the Samsung’s latest Galaxy Buds+ TWS earbuds.
Samsung MUA01 and MUB01 all-in-one IC New Design and Benefits
The difference between the new Samsung MUA01 and MUB01 integrated circuits is that the MUA01 IC is designed for the charging case whereas the MUB02 IC aims at earbuds. Due to the clever design, these new Samsung all-in-one PMICs occupy less than half space than the previous chips. With the help of Samsung’s proprietary technology, these ICs are able to integrate up to ten discrete components at once (including switching chargers and discharge circuits). Because of the compact design, these new ICs offer more room to the battery for longer playback time.
Support for both Wireless and Wired Charging
Samsung’s latest MUA01 IC now features both wired and wireless charging in a single chip. For efficient power management, MUA01 integrates a switching charger. And for wireless charging operations, this new all-in-one IC supports the industry’s latest WPC Qi 1.2.4 wireless power transfer interface standard.
PLC Support
The new Samsung MUA01 and MUB01 PMICs come with PLC support. PLC stands for power line communication. Via PLC, these chips can communicate with each other over the charging pins. As a benefit, both the earbuds and the charging case can share essential information such as battery levels and earbuds detection in the charging case.
Firmware Modification
For firmware modification purposes, Samsung’s new MUA01 and MUB01 IC for earbuds also come:
- eFlash (embedded Flash)
- MCU (microcontroller unit)
