Expanding the lineup of the latest Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors, AMD unveiled the new Ryzen 9 4900H & Ryzen 9 4900HS APUs. Both of these chips give tough competition to Intel’s best mobile processors. Except for base / boost clocks and TDP, the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 4900H shares the same specifications as the Ryzen 9 4900HS in terms of CPU architecture, cores / threads, GPU cores & frequency, and cache memory.
AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS
Unlike any other processor in the mobile 4000 series lineup, AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS mobile APU carries an “HS” suffix. Before the introduction of 4900HS, these processors were segregated into “U” and “H” series supporting 15W and 45 Watts of power respectively. Now, this new 4900HS APU comes with a TDP rating of 35W that sits around the middle of both “U” and “H” series processors.
AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS surpasses the old flagship Ryzen 7 4800H in terms of base/boost clock, GPU cores, GPU frequency, and TDP while the cores/threads and cache memory remains the same.
Boasting the same Zen 2 7nm architecture, the new Ryzen 9 4900HS features 8 cores / 16 threads with a base / boost clock ranging from 3 GHz to 4.3 GHz. And its integrated GPU comes with 8 cores supporting 1750 MHz frequency (same as AMD Ryzen 7 4800U and Ryzen 9 4900H).
Cores / Threads | Base / Boost Clock | Cache | GPU Cores | GPU Frequency | TDP | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS | 8/16 | 3 GHz – 4.3 GHz | 12MB | 8 | 1750MHz | 35W |
AMD Ryzen 9 4900H
As of now, AMD Ryzen 9 4900H APU takes the crown for the Ryzen 4000 mobile series processor lineup. In comparison to Ryzen 9 4900HS, the flagship Ryzen 9 4900H shares similar specifications in terms of GPU cores & frequency, CPU cores/threads, and cache memory. However, the same is not true when it comes to CPU clock speeds and TDP.
Among all the 4000 series mobile processors, the new flagship AMD Ryzen 9 4900H features fastest base (3.3GHz) and boost (4.4GHz) clock speeds. Along with the fastest frequencies, 4900H also manages to stay efficient with a TDP of 35W. Note that the TDP rating varies from 35W up to 54 Watts.
Cores / Threads | Base / Boost Clock | Cache | GPU Cores | GPU Frequency | TDP | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMD Ryzen 9 4900H | 8/16 | 3.3 GHz – 4.4 GHz | 12MB | 8 | 1750MHz | 35 – 54W |
Interestingly, Ryzen 9 4900H is capable enough to beat Intel’s strongest mobile processor. After taking a strong control over the desktop market, AMD is now standing tall against Intel in the mobile territory as well.
Just like all the AMD Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors, these new APUs offer the same DDR4 memory speeds at 3200MHz. With LPDDR4, they can reach up to 4266MHz. Also, the memory capacity of these new processors remains the same (64GB).
